Somatic Psychotherapy
“Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going inside ourselves.”
-Bessel Van der Kolk
The term somatic psychotherapy, or mind body psychotherapy, refers to using the vast resources contained within the body as part of the therapeutic practice, in order to effectively access and heal core wounding, trauma, and unresolved issues. Somatic therapy works on a deep level to transform core wounding and core beliefs with compassion and gentleness.
Carissa primarily uses The Hakomi Method as a base for the somatic work done in her office, she also incorporate principles from other modalities including Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, yoga, and other mind body techniques.
